Very unusual hand painted orbs and geometrical designs on a pair of kutani ceramic sake pourers c.1925. Signed on the bottom by the artist, Tosen and the characters for kutani. This is one of the most rare shippo you will find in Japan. An early Showa Period c.1930 cloisonne vase with an belt design made from egg shells. On the original kiri (paulownia ) wood box is the inscription, "Rankaku Obi Moyo" meaning a obi belt like pattern made from egg shells. Very rare murashido bronze flower vase with handles. Beautiful patina of a palate of colors achieved by coloring the hot bronze with straw smoke. The base has a chrysanthemum design and the condition is excellent with slight natural wear of the patina has allowed the original bronze to be seen. Exceptional 2 panel Kawabata Shunsui painting of bamboo and peony flowers on silver leaf paper. Shunsui was born 1882 in Kyoto and died at an early age of 1934 after achieving recognition as one of the bright stars of Taisho Period (c.1912-1926) screen painting. He spent extensive time in India in the 1920's. The bamboo leafs are exquisite as well as the peonies. Excellent condition; no holes or tears. (l:159cm x w:67)email for shipping rates.

Dynamic painting on silk of a tiger on the prowl. Beautiful colors and movement depicted. The painting by Kamura Yokoku, (b.1885-1955), whose real name is Murakami Chikara, is a masterpiece. Exceptionally rare Oiran Geisha geta shoes. Depicted in many Ukiyo-e woodblock prints of the Oiran, or queen of the geishas, this is the geta she wore in the entertainment district of Kyoto, Gion. The high style in black lacquered wood with tatami mat inlay in the velvet on top. The straps are also of velvet. On the back is a torn sticker that reads geisha. On the inside of one of the wood rungs is the name of the shop that sold the shoe, 'Kyoto Shibata Footwear' , the address 'Kyoto Gion Machi' and the telephone no. 3159. Rich impact art deco plate from the pottery master Kanou Mitsuo. He was born and lived in Kyoto c.1903-1970. He was known for his tortoiseshell glazes. In 1949 he won first prize at the Nitten, Japan's prestigious Fine Arts Exhibition. Later he was asked to be the top judge in the event. The plate comes in the original signed kiri wood box and on the lid it reads, 'Bekkou Yu' tortoiseshell glaze, and 'Hirabachi' flat plate.
