The 'nengo' or written dates around this huge bronze antique Japanese temple gong read: Meiji 18 (1885) from Manshozan Daikaku-in, a soto sect Buddhist temple in present day Tottori prefecture. This temple was established in Keicho 5 (1605) and was one of the Royal family`s branch temples thus the 16 petal design on the rim. Simply stunning antique Japanese Edo Period c.1850 tea ceremony iron 'chagama' brazier for boiling the water for the tea cermony. Tripod legs support the base. Raised leaf patterns encircle the body while the iron rings are split, dating the piece to late Edo when this was the style. The natural, unpretentious beauty of Shigaraki ash glazes and accidental firing qualities of Shigaraki-ware often caught the eye of the tea masters in antiquity. A rare find for Kodo Arts, we are excited about this antique Japanese Edo Period c.1850 Buddhist temple lantern. The configuration is very unusual with the chrysanthemum middle section, the imperial royal family crest, sitting on a tripod legged base. Usually temple lantern come with a long stem. In its original signed box, this wonderful antique Japanese Meiji Period, c.1890 bronze hibachi was specifically made for a tea ceremony room. The bronze was smoked in straw smoke after firing to achieve the luscious brown coloring. The bronze craftsmanship is of the highest level. On each side of the hibachi in exquisite raised relief are three different scenes framed. one, is a crane in bamboo; sparrow on a tree branch, a parakeet on a cherry branch and birds and butterflies. Breathtaking antique Japanese cloissone vase from the Ando Factory. In the original signed box, the characters read 'shigyokuju yoran kabin' meaning purple jewel glaze orchid flower vase, and 'Ando ShippoTen Tsukuri' made by the Ando Cloissone Company.
