This important signed Yoshida Eji flower vase in the signed original box is by one of Japan's famed and most revered bronze artists. He won the Oriental Art Exhibition Prize in 1932 and designed the gold medal for the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. Ikuta was born in 1928 and studied with Kawai Kanjiro. He later set up his own kiln in Tamba, one of the seven great Kilns in ancient Japan. He became quite famous for his 'mentori' faceted sided vases. He won the 'Mombu Daijinsho' Ministry of Culture Prize in 1975. He died suddenly in 1982 shocking the ceramic world as he was a rising star.
