Sensational Antique Japanese Caligraphy Lacquer Box
Exceptional Taisho Period c. 1910 'suzuri bako' maki-e lacquered caligraphy writing box. Sensational gold maki-e chrysanthemums some with silver leaf petals and some with raised maki-e or mother of pearl inlay. Chrysanthemum petals and leaves with gold maki-e and mother of pearl make up this elegant, rich mosiac. On the inside of the top are 3 gorgeous butterflies also in raised gold maki-e. The bottom inside has a silver ink pourer with a pine motif and a black nachi ink stone. The bottom of the bottom box has some worn away lacquer on the corners and on the top, one of the mother of pearl chrysanthemums has a crack. Otherwise in fabulous condition. Ask for shipping quote.
