Antique Japanese Bronze Shrine 'Zeni-Bako' Money Box
Important, rare bronze plated Meiji Period C.1885 'zeni-bako' money box that was kept before the shrine altar to accept offerings. Usually they are made of keyaki wood but this wood money box is covered in bronze with thick bronze nails. The front has a crest and two japanese characters in relief "HO" and "NO" meaning offerings from the heart. The back has a drawer at the bottom to remove the money. We put a thick piece of glass of the slats on top to make a stunning coffee table. (glass easily removed). H:25" x W:39". Ask for shipping quote from our california warehouse.
