Edo Period (c.1860) Keyaki Zelkova Go Board and Go-Ishi
A Beautiful Block of prized zelkova "keyaki" wood carved into a Go board. The white Go stones are made of shell while the black stones are carved out of Japanese "natchi-kuro" stone and sanded to a fine polish. Both white and black stone Go pieces come in exquisite keyaki go-ishi wood containers shining with a worn patina of the ages. The ultimate wabi-sabi mingei look. A few Edo stains on the surface but these only enhance the piece. c.1860. (16½" x 17" x 8") (42cm x 43cm x 21cm). Heavy item.
