Exquisite Antique Okinawa Red Lacquer Dish c.1850

Antique Japanese lacquer from Okinawa is characterized by the sturdiness of the woods and the many layers of lacquer applied to withstand the humidity of semi-tropical Okinawa. A small chip reveals the gauze that holds the numerous layers of lacquer. Decorative gold designs typify Okinawa motifs. c.1850. (15" diameter x 2¾" high). (38cm diameter x 7cm high).
