Lovely Pair Lacquered Chrysanthemum Wood Candlestands
Early Taisho Period c.1910 antique Japanese lacquered wood candlestands with copper candleholders. Gold burnished lacquer with chrysanthemum carved bases. From the 13th century onward, the chrysanthemum has been a symbol of the Japanese imperial family and later the symbol was used as a family crest; at least ninty-five family crests exist in Japan based on the chrysanthemum motif. c.1910.
