| From the center of tea ceremony culture, this antique Japanese Shigaraki tea leaf storage jar was prized for it's "nagashi-hagi" glaze. Shigaraki was a famous ceramic kiln area near Kyoto made famous by the founder of the tea ceremony, Sen no Rikyu who thought Shigaraki-wares exhibited the most simple elegance that expressed what the tea ceremony hoped to expouse. Dated by the crackle hagi white glaze and streaks of green over glaze, this Meiji Period jar has a small kiln 'kizu' or indentation on the rim which occured at firing. c.1890. (11½" x 9") (29cm x 23cm). EMS Shipping/Insurance to USA or Western Europe $70. | ||
