Antique Japanese Scroll Signed Kono Shoei c.1793
Antique Japanese tea ceremony scroll of sparrows in playful flight. Signed 'Hokyo Shoei'. Hokyo is the honorific name awarded only to top class artists. Kono Shoei being one. He is famous for a scroll he did in 1793 for Matsuo Basho, the famous haiku poet. Fusuma sliding doors he painted can still be seen in Manjuin Temple in the northeast part of Kyoto. c.1793.
