| Some of the best rattan wrappings, knots and stiches we have ever seen on an antique Japanese basket. The handle is held in place by buttresses made of bamboo wrapped with 'mushi-maki' knots and the seven 'cho-musubi' butterfly knots on the handle are exquisite. Verticle bamboo inserts on the body are elaborately decorated by 'insect stich knots (mushi-kagari). Handle is bamboo. Rim is a series of fine rattan knots. c.1900. (21" x 10") (54cm x 26cm).
