Jizo is a stone spirit guardian found outside in small shrines all over Japan. Hands placed together in "gasho" or prayer to invoke the gods protection for sentient beings who have both passed on and those who still exist in this realm. Jizo are entrusted with guarding souls in the otherworld. This fantastic Japanese antique is covered with moss. Edo Period c.1870. (9½" x 6½") (24cm x 17cm).
