A Japanese bronze ewer of naturalistic form, cast and engraved to resemble a tree trunk with engraved maple-leaf decoration. The handle, spout, and lid handle also worked as tree branches, with elaborate engraved inscription on the base. This wonderful piece is 8 ½ in. tall and 6 ¾ in. wide. Early 20th century.

A fine Japanese tripod bronze bowl with inlaid decoration of flying kirin, the fabulous mythical beast with the head of a dragon and hooves of a deer. The kirin are inlaid with sculpted and engraved silver, with inlaid akagane (red copper) flames and inlaid shakudo wisps of clouds; the three feet feature archaistic mask forms with silver inlaid eyes, and the base bears an engraved archaistic seal. This is a fine tripod bronze koro with silver inlay. There is a wide border of interlocking stylized water dragons that are inlayed and engraved, with the theme echoed on the pierced lid. The feet, which rest on the original wood stand, are also in a dragon-head shape. The silver finial is a shishi, seated in a noble posture. The base of the koro is engraved in cursive script.
