A charming group of three small boxwood okimono, depicting the sanbiki saru, the famed monkeys who "see, here and speak no evil". Each is well-carved in the round, two having eyes of inlaid horn. The fur details are subtly engraved and the monkeys have a whimsical expression. These are perfect cabinet pieces. It appears two toes on one monkeys foot have been recarved otherwise these delightful pieces are in pristine condition. Each monkey measures 3 in. in height. C. 1900.

This handsome Japanese Ivory Okimono is that of a talented craftsman carrying his assortment of drums, baskets and cricket cages to sell at the local marketplace. The attention to detail that the artist demonstrates in both the carving and etch work is quite amazing. The piece stands 5.25 in. and is in pristine condition. Unsigned. c. 1910
