Lg. Hayakawa Japanese Cloisonne Vase w/ Mandarin Ducks
This fine Japanese Cloisonné Enamel vase, signed Hayakawa Komejiro, is decorated with a mated pair of Mandarin ducks swimming on blue stream of scrolling waves. The drake and his mate are naturalistically rendered in both gender and species with the appropriate shades of mauve, beige, grey, lavender, etc. The stream is intricately stylized with multitudes of fine silver wires indicating a fast flowing movement. The ducks are floating below a large blossoming prunes (Ume) tree profusely covered with white flowers and buds on the stark branches. The lichen coated trunk and branches are realistically enameled in blended shades of greens and browns. From the base of the Prunes tree grows a shrub of wild rose abundant with pink-tinged white flowers from a small patch of pale green turf within the stream. This all reserved against a translucent tomato red ground. The long tapering neck is decorated at the mouth with a border of stylized scrolling vines scattered with narcissus blossoms. The piece has Sterling Silver rims and mounts with the base engraved with the signature of Hayakawa Komejiro. Meiji period, circa 1900. The piece stands an impressive 18 ¼ inches tall. The condition of the piece is very good for its size and age with only a series of stress lines on the upper back side (see last picture). On all of our items we offer a 100% MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.
