| This delightful Japanese Cloisonne vase is done in the Basse-Taille style with two red/orange Koi swimming with a black/purple Koi. Each fish has deeply engraved scales, yellow eyes with black pupils and expertly shaded fins and underbellies. Engraved masterfully into the metal body of the piece is another Koi swimming amongst silver water plants on top of an embossed dimpled background pattern. This fine piece is melon shaped which was not only harder to make but also shows the engravings better because of the way the light hits it. The piece stands 4 ¾ in. tall and is in exceptional condition with only some wear to the mounts. There is also a small ding to the top rim. Signed Ando. Late Meiji early Taisho. | |||||||||
