ISHIYAMA MOTOTADA TSUBA w/Bamboo with NBTHK paper
ISHIYAMA MOTOTADA TSUBA with Bamboo and Crab design. It is with a N.B.T.H.K Hozon Certificate. Fine condition.
SIZE: 71.2 X 67 x 4.3mm.
ISHIYAMA MOTOTADA (1669~1734). Born in Kyoto. In the middle of Edo period, he was said to be good at simple Katakiri-bori(one side cut carving), but this masterpiece is applied takabori-zogan(high relief inlay) with gold all over the plate. It is a very rare piece in his work.
Theme of this Tsuba is bamboo grass, bamboo netting and crab. These three words have implications of the word "Spider". It maybe a play on words in old era. Spider is known as a good-luck symbol so that this is a very auspicious Tsuba. Follow us on Twitter!! https://twitter.com/#!/kurikarajapan
