Old Koi Nobori
This is an old carp made with asa (hemp or bast fiber). It was probably used as a streamer called Koinobori for the Boys Day (renamed to Chilren's Day). The larger Koi can be bigger than 10Elong. When they are seen swimming in the sky as a group of family, it is quite an impressive site.

The carps are known to swim against the current which the Japanese consider it the most spirited of fish, very appropriate symbol for the Boys Day festival. The fabric is dyed with the Tsutsugaki method, freehand rice paste-resist dye. The beautiful antique decoration piece. 65Elong. Early 1900s.
