Superb and rare modernist design brooch by important African American silversmith Art Smith, circa 1950s. This pin is in sterling silver, a more uncommon medium for Smith. That, in addition to the unusual naturalistic theme of the piece, make this a desirable find. The pin is in excellent condition and measures over 3" in length. It is correctly signed "Art Smith" on the rear, although "Art" part of the stamp is obscured by part of the design. It is also stamped "sterling". Art Smith's work is extremely rare and sought after. |
