The graphic impact of this blanket box with paint decoration is absolutely stunning. It is swirl decorated in black over a yellowish-putty color, and virtually all the paint is intact. Adding to the special nature of this piece is its dainty size, measuring 31 inches long by 15 1/4 inches deep by 13 1/2 inches tall. A wonderful stepped top tea caddy in a deep, rich color, set with silver stringing, ivory escutcheon, ball feet and knobs, and a working key. It dates from around 1825, and is 6 1/2" tall, 6 1/2" wide, and 4" deep.
The condition is superb, with no cracks, veneer loss or repairs. The deep green velvet lining to the inside of the lid might be a replacement, as is the metal lining the interiors of the compartments, both of these being of totally negligible import.
