$495.00

Beautifully executed miniature painting on ivory of an attractive young woman. According to writing on the reverse, the sitter is Julia Weigale, of NY, and the portrait was done in 1861. The rendering of the details, from the sheen in the hair, the brooch, the careful shadings of the dress, and the exquisite treatment of the lace, indicates that the artist was quite talented and might have had some professional training. The piece is unsigned, and an attribution has not yet been made. The ...click for details

An exceptionally well done portrait of a handsome young man.

The painting itself is in excellent condition, with no chips, scratches, splits, or restoration. Housed in its original embossed metal locket, which is unusual in that it has a front metal cover. The hinge to this cover is broken and the cover is detached. Please note that the sitter's head is not flat, but is not easily photographed because of the curve ...click for details

$495.00

A small and nicely painted miniature on ivory, with good detailing, of a gentleman in a blue coat. It is a little difficult to say 100 % definitively that the miniature is American, as it could also be English from this period. The frame appears to be gold of some content, and the back is covered with shagreen (a roughened untanned leather, originally made from the skin on the back of a horse or onager). Excellent condition, with no cracks, paint loss, bowing, or restoration. The size is 1 1/2&q ...click for details
