This is a superbly rendered watercolor on paper attributed to Henry Walton. The name of the sitter, John Andrew Jenny, is written in pencil at the top of the painting, in a style not unlike Walton's. The sitter is a nice-looking young man wearing a black coat, with highlights in gum arabic. The features are finely drawn, with all facial aspects beautifully executed. The piece is 3 3/8 inches by 2 7/8 inches sight size. The tiger maple frame, which is period and might be original, is 7 1/2 inches by 6 3/4 inches. The painting is in excellent condition, with no tears or restoration, and only some slight, even toning, which is to be expected. This would be a wonderful display piece or addition to any collection of American folk art. |
