| Magnificent Late 18th Century to Early 19th Century Brass Chased Coal Hod/Planter. This wonderful item has a Chased design around the entire body of Bows, Ribbons, Pineapples and Fruit of Bounty. These were originally used as Coal Hods to put the Hot embers in at the side of the fireplace and later used as Planters by many. This item has a RICH DARK & DIRTY Patina which I will not attempt to touch. It was probably polished by servants in the 19th Century but appears to have not been touch since then. The Hod measures 12 1/4" X 10" and stands 8" high. The body has a rolled top edge and there are 4 Cast Brass or Bronze Hairy Paw Feet with Lions Heads and Breasts applied to the body by use of original studs that are flattened to the interior. These Hods are very scarce today and this is an excellent example. There is the expected wear applicable to its age, but no apparent repairs or damage of any kind. Shipping Fee is $15.00 plus Optional Insurance Upon Request in the Continental U.S. | ||
