This is a large Art Deco period Royal Doulton match holder striker, fully back-stamped & mounted with a London hallmarked Silver rim / well, & dating to 1935. The holder is hemispherical or domed in form, & has a glazed textured finish, rather like coral, with random voids. The holder is a beige in colour, with darker brown speckling. The holder is mounted with a one piece solid Silver collar / well. The base of the holder carries the Royal Doulton impressed mark which was used from 1927 - 1936, alongside the impressed pattern ? number '4550' & '940'. The Silver mount is fully hallmarked, & although they are rubbed & faint, they consist of the makers mark (indistinct), the date letter 'u' (1935 - 36), the lion passant (925 Sterling), & the leopards head (London). Condition is fine for it's 75 years, with no chips, cracks, or restoration. The Silver rim has 3 small bruises to the rim and, as mentioned, the hallmarks are rubbed - please see magnified photos. The holder is a large example & stands approx 2 5/8" high, with a diameter of 4 1/4" (approx 6.6cm & 10.5cm). Overall, a lovely Deco period holder, which can stand alone as a decorative object & would fit in with any modern interior.
