This is a British made celluloid & tin plate matchbox cover or grip, dating to the World War One period 1914 - 1918. The front of the holder has the WW1 allies flags of The Kingdom of Italy, Belgium, the British Union Flag, France, & the Russian Empire (the fall of the Russian Empire in 1917 would date this holder to 1914 - 17). The spine reads 'MATCHES', British Made, & a very small ink stamp with 'SF PARK - Walsall'. The reverse of the holder has a real photograph of a very young child in period dress (mounted under the celluloid). This unusual holder was almost certainly a momento of the child, for the father whilst away at war. The 'SF PARK' stamp on the spine would either be the childs initials & surname, or the fathers. Walsall, a town in the Midlands, would presumably be their home town. Condition is Excellent The holder measures approx 6cm x 4cm x 2cm.
