This is a large figural tin plate money box or savings bank, in the form of a Post Box / Pillar Box, & dating to the mid 1920's. The box is cylindrical, with a 'push on / off' lid, which fits perfectly. The front of the box is embossed (in relief), & has a symmetrical pattern around the rim. Underneath this is the aperture with the printed legend 'POST OFFICE', & below this is the embossed 'door', which has the notice plate (with 'HOURS OF COLLECTION' & a table of the times ), a little 'lock' (with a painted keyhole !), & the Royal cipher of 'gr' (for George V). The reverse of box has the alphabet & the numbers 1 through 0, surrounded by depictions of various Geo V postage stamps (1/2d green, 1d red, & 2d orange), & Geo V coins (farthing, penny, 3d, florin, & half crown). The box is finished in red with a black base, with the notice plate in white, the alphabet / numbers in dark yellow & the coins in 'gilt'. The stamps are in their own colours. The coins depicted on the rear of the box bear dates ranging from 1918 (farthing) to 1921, thus the bank will date from around 1921 (almost certainly no later than the mid 1920's). Condition is fairly good for it's age. The top of the lid has a few dents (Please see photos), but everything else is structurally excellent. The paintwork has had a few 'battle scars', but overall very good for its 87 odd years (again, please see magnified photos). The bank is approx 6" high x 3.52 in diameter (approx 15.5cm x 9cm). All in all, a good, original 1920's 'Post Box' bank, in an unusually large size.
