Large Silver Rimmed Agate Slice: Sheffield 1987

This is a large sliced section of a Banded Agate geode, with a bark effect solid Silver rim, fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1987.

This unusual piece has been made to look like a cross section of a tree trunk, with the Silver rim representing the bark.

This agate slice has concentric bands, rather like rings in a tree trunk, of different shades of browns, oranges, greys, & white. The hollow centre of the slice is lined in the natural quartz crystals.

The pattern of the agate is slightly different on each side & the piece is translucent, so displays beautifully in front of a light source such as a window sill, etc.

The Silver rim is quite deep, & has been hand crafted to fit the exact contour of the natural Agate slice.

The rim is fully hallmarked with the makers mark 'B or S L', the rose (Sheffield after 1974), the lion passant (925 sterling), & the date letter 'N' (for 1987).The slice is approx 4 1/2" or 11.5 cm in diameter (at it's widest), & weighs approx 4.10 oz.

Condition is Fine, no damage or repairs at all.

Overall, a lovely slice of agate, thousands of years old, but with a modern twist.
