Norwegian 830 Silver Box : Brodrene Lohne 1973

This is a Norwegian 830 standard Silver cigar or trinket box, lined in cedar wood, & made and hallmarked by the silversmith Brodrene Lohne in Bergen, Norway in 1973.

This stunning box is of a classical form, with a stepped, domed & hinged lid, stepped & concave sides, & sitting on four bracket feet with a fluted design.

The interior sides & base are lined with Cedar.

The lid has been lightly engraved with two inscriptions, the top L/H corner bears the initials 'JW', & the bottom R/H corner bears 'EUROSAC 1973'. The engraving is very light & shallow, & could easily be erased or filled.

The box is hallmarked to the lip of the base with the makers mark, an 'o' in an 'L' (for Brodrene Lohne of Bergen), & the Norwegian Silver mark of 830S (for 830 standard Silver). The Norwegian hallmarking system hasn't used a dating system since the end of the 19 C., but this box is no later than 1973 (due to inscription).

Condition is extremely good, there is a very small 'pinhead' bruise to the lid - please see photo's.

The box measures approx 6 1/4" long, 3 5/8" wide, & 1 1/4" deep (15.8 cm x 9.3 cm x 3.4 cm).

The box weighs, including the lining, 253.6 g, 8.94 oz, or 8.15 Troy.

Overall, a stunning box with an ageless design, from a respected maker, & in great condition.
