This is a late Victorian, or early Edwardian novelty Vesta or match safe, made of nickel silver, & dating to around 1900. The vesta has a vertical fluted design, and opens via a push button located on one edge. The front of the case has a flush fitting, brass edged circular compartment, with a green baize covered base & a glass top, containing 3 tiny bone or ivory die or dice. The dice are thrown by shaking the case. The striker is attached to the bottom of the case. There is a slight fracture in the glass, but this does not affect the throwing of the dice in any way, nor does it affect the structure (the glass is fixed with absolutely no movement). Condition is great for age, the hinge, spring, & opening button are fine & the dice are free moving. There is a slight overhang on the lid but this is in the manufacture, & in no way affects the opening. The vesta measures approx 2" by 1 3/8" (5 cm x 2.4 cm). Overall, a scarce little vesta case, in good condition for it's 100 odd years.
