Victorian Silver Fusee Pocket Watch: Chester 1879

This is a Victorian Silver pocket or fob watch, with a key wound Fusee movement, & fully hallmarked for Chester 1879.

The watch is not running, so would need to be repaired and/or serviced.

The watch case hinges open at the rear to reveal the inner case, which has a small hole for the key, and at the front, the bezel hinges open which allows the dial & movement to hinge forward.

Case: The case is in very good condition, with just some rubbing to the rear cartouche & the engine turned engraving to the edge. The outer & inner case are fully hallmarked with the lion passant (925 sterling), the wheatsheafs (Chester), & the date letter 'q' (for 1879 - 80). The bow also carries the lion passant & makers mark.

Glass: The convex glass is in good condition, with just a few, light, age related scratches

Dial: The dial is in white porcelain, with roman numerals & minute markers, & there is a subsidiary, 60 second dial. The sweep hand is missing, the minute hand is slightly bent, & there are 3 small hairlines at 5 o' clock.

Movement: The movement unclips at 6 o'clock & hinges backwards at 12 o'clock & has a dust cover which lifts off to reveal the fusee movement. There is an ornate balance cock, & the number '8932', which matches the case.

Albert Chain: The chain, which came with the watch, is white metal & not Silver

Overall: All hinges & closures are fine & snap shut but, as mentioned, the watch does not run. Please feel free to ask any questions (although you will need to tell us what to look for).

The watch is approx 5.5cm to the top of the 'crown' (excluding the ring), & the face is approx 4.3 cm in diameter (excluding the case). The case is approx 1.5 cm deep, & the watch is heavy for it's size at just under 3 1/2 oz.
