This is a Victorian watercolour, by the listed Scottish landscape artist James Ferrier (fl. 1840 - 1900), & signed and dated for 1857. This is a very early work of James Ferrier, who lived in Edinburgh & whose work was widely exhibited, including at the Royal Scottish Academy (7 works during 1880 - 83), & the Royal Academy (where his work entitled 'In Glen Cannick', was exhibited in 1873). In the last few years, several of Ferriers works, including 'Glencoe' & 'Picking flowers by the loch', have been sold through Sotheby's. The watercolour, a Scottish river landscape, is signed & dated to the bottom, left hand corner. The painting is mounted & framed under glass and, although the painting is in Fine condition, the (original ?) heavy, wood backed frame & mount are poor. This fine painting would be greatly enhanced by being re-mounted / framed. The image measures approx 35 cm x 25 cm, whilst the frame measures approx 60 cm x 49 cm.
