Georgian Scottish Silver Toddy Ladle: Edinburgh 1824

This is a Scottish Silver Toddy or Sauce ladle, made during the reign of George IV and bearing the makers mark of James Hewitt, & fully hallmarked for Edinburgh 1824.

The ladle is of the single struck Kings pattern, a variation of the Kings pattern peculiar to Scotland, where only the front of the terminal bears the pattern, the reverse being plain. The cartouche is vacant.

The bowl is circular, with a flat(ish) bottom.

The ladle is fully hallmarked to the rear with the George Head (Duty mark), the castle (Edinburgh), the thistle (925 sterling), the date letter 's' (1824 - 25), & the makers mark 'JH' in script (James Hewitt, who was entered in 1750).

Condition is Fine, with no dings, dents, repairs, or erasures. The hallmarks are crisp.

The ladle measures approx 16 cm (just under 6 1/2"), with a bowl diameter of approx 4.5 cm (1 3/4").

The weight is 33.6 g, 1.19 oz, or 1.08 Troy.

Overall, a nice 184 year old Scottish ladle, of good proportions, & in Fine condition.
