This is a cased solid Silver individual Dessert Set, comprising of a cake knife & spoon in the Hanoverian pattern, by the silversmiths Cooper Bros & Sons, & fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1942 & 43. The knife, which is more like a very small cake slice, has bevelled edges to the 'blade' & a long Rat-tail to the reverse. The front of the stem has a pronounced central ridge & has an upturned terminal. The spoon has a large bowl with a long Rat-tail to the reverse, & also has a pronounced central ridge to the stem and an upturned terminal. Both pieces are fully hallmarked to the reverse with the makers mark 'CB over S' (Cooper Bros & Sons), the Crown (Sheffield), the Lion Passant (925 Sterling), with the knife having the date letter 'z' (1942 - 43), & the spoon having the date letter 'A' (1943 - 44). Both pieces have the engraved surname initials 'McD' to the reverse of the terminals. The box is finished in black faux leather with gold tooling, & opens via a push button. The interior lid is lined with a Gold 'silk' bearing the retailers stamp of 'Jas Ramsey - Dundee', & the base is in dark blue velvet with a velvet covered retaining bar. Condition is Fine, absolutely no damage at all. The box is also Fine, with only very light wear to the base corners. Excellent for their 65 years. Both the knife & spoon measure approx 5" or 12.7 cm in length. The total weight is 35.7 g, 1.26 oz, or 1.15 Troy. Overall, a nice & unusual little individual place setting dessert set, in excellent condition. Please note: we also have a matching cased 12 piece spoon set, in the same pattern / date & with the same monogram, & also retailed by Jas Ramsey of Dundee.
