This is a cased set of five (originally 6) Art Deco Silver & Enamel cocktail sticks with figural Cockerel tops, by the silversmiths Horton & Allday, & fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1928. The sticks are of the highest quality, with the top & the stem being made separately and then hand soldered together with, unusually, both the top & the stem being hallmarked. The Silver tops, in the form of a cockerel, are finely detailed & have been beautifully finished in transparent Green, Blue, Yellow, & Orange enamels - Please see magnified photos. The Silver stems have a tapered, square profile, finishing in a point. Each stick is fully hallmarked to the rear of the cockerel with the makers mark 'H&A' (Horton & Allday), the Anchor (Birmingham), the Lion Passant (925 Sterling), & the date letter 'D' (1928 - 29). Additionally, each stem is hallmarked with the Lion Passant. The sticks come in a fitted 'Fan' shaped case, with a push button opening & a blue faux leather exterior. The interior has a cream 'silk' lined top & a cream velvet base, with the printed retailers details of 'TO THE ADMIRALTY - 10 GORDON ST, GLASGOW - J R & W LAING - DIAMOND MERCHANTS' to the lid. Condition of the cocktail sticks is Fine, with no damage to enamel & the stems being straight. The only minor point to note is that the makers mark is very, very slightly rubbed to a couple of sticks. Condition of the box is serviceable, but generally poor. The faux leather cover is scuffed, particularly on the base (as would be expected after 80 years) & there has been a repair to the exterior hinge leaf, but the hinge, opening, & interior are good. Each cocktail stick has a total length of approx 3" or 7.7 cm. Overall, a very high quality set of Art Deco period cocktail sticks, in fantastic condition for their 80 years.
