This is a Victorian English Sterling Silver cased perfume or scent bottle, by the renowned silversmith Frederick Bradford Macrae, and fully hallmarked for London 1886.

The case is tubular in form with a hinged lid and separate collar.

The front of the case has been hand engraved with an exquisite design, depicting an Oriental (possibly Japanese) person gathering reeds or rushes by the edge of a lake or river.

The design fits in with the age of the case, as it was around this period that the trade markets with the Far East opened up & a lot of Victorian British designs took on an Oriental theme.

The case is fully hallmarked on the base with the makers mark 'F.B.M.' (for Frederick Bradford Macrae), the Lion Passant (925 Sterling), the Leopards head (London), the date letter L (1886 - 87), and the Victoria's head duty mark. The makers mark, Lion Passant, & date letter are repeated to the interior of the lid, & the collar carries the Lion Passant.

Condition of the case is fantastic, the makers mark on the base is slightly rubbed (all other marks are crisp), and there is a very,very slight bruise on the base (really hard to spot - not damage, more than likely happened during manufacture).

The Glass bottle (which sits on a wad of cotton in the case) has been damaged & badly repaired. This in no way affects the appearance of the case, but if you were going to use it, you would have to replace the bottle (the stopper is fine).

The case measures approx 2 1/4" high, & just over 1" in diameter (approx 5.5 cm x 2.8 cm).

The case (excluding the glass bottle) weighs 30.2 g or 1.07 oz.

Overall, an extremely high quality & very scarce Victorian Silver case, in fantastic condition for it's 122 years.
