This is a George VI period, solid Silver cigarette or card case, by the silversmith George Frank Bickerton, & fully hallmarked for London 1946. The case is rectangular in form, & has been decorated on each side with three wide bands of engine turned engraving, the central band on each side running in an opposite direction to the other two, forming a striped effect. The case is opened via a sprung button to one edge, to reveal a gilded interior with two lugs, designed to hold an elastic retaining strap (not present). The case is fully hallmarked to the interior with the makers mark 'GFB' (George Frank Bickerton), the Lion Passant (925 Sterling), the Leopards head (London), & the date letter 'L' (1946 - 47). The Lion Passant & Leopards Head are repeated on the opposite side. Condition is Fine, with just very light surface marks that would be expected on a 62 year old, engine turned case - please see magnified photos. The case measures approx 5" long, & 3 3/8" wide (12.7 cm x 8.6 cm). The case has been crafted from a heavy gauge Silver, & weighs 182.5 g, 6.44 oz, or 5.87 Troy.
