Early 20th C. Japanese 950 Silver Cigarette Case

This is a Japanese 950 Silver cigarette or card case, beautifully chased to both sides & signed by the maker or artist, and with the Japanese ordinance mark for 950 standard Silver & dating to around 1930 - 50.

The case is rectangular in form & is slightly curved in shape to enable a comfortable fit in a pocket etc.

The front of the case has a chased, Japanese scene depicting a pagoda nestling between mountains, with trees to the fore & a lake with two sail boats, & mountains to the background. The scene is continued to the rear of the case with a mountain scene.

The rear of the case is signed to the bottom R/H corner with a 3 character mark.

The case is opened via a sprung push button to the left hand edge, to reveal a frosted silver interior with a removable, silver restraining band with ornate, sprung links.

The interior is marked with 'SILVER 950' (Japanese ordinances of 1928 (and 54) called for the use of decimal standard marks to replace the 'jungin' character mark).

Condition is Fine, with only a few very, very light surface marks that would be expected on a 70 year old case.

The case is quite slim & measures approx 3 3/4" by 3 1/8" (approx 9.5 cm x 8 cm).

The weight is 96.3 g, 3.4 oz, or 3.1 Troy.

Overall, a beautifully chased, high grade Silver case in fine condition.
