This is a pair of 10 7/8" Edwardian brass ejector 'The Diamond Princess' candlesticks, produced by James Clew & Sons of Birmingham, & dating to 1902. The sticks have cut corner square bases and a large hexagonal 'diamond' pattern knop towards the top of the stem. The front of the base on each stick is impressed with 'THE DIAMOND PRINCESS', & the back with 'ENGLISH / Rd 385856 (which dates the design to 1902). Both sticks have their original push-up ejection mechanisms (original rods but buttons missing) which are seized. These sticks were part of a series, produced by James Clew & Sons, to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. The Ace, King, & Queen were produced in 1897, and the later Prince & Princess in 1902: all can be found on pages 220 - 223 in the reference 'The English Candlestick, 1425 - 1925' by E Koldeweij. Condition of the sticks is Fine. The only points to note are that there are a few spots of tarnishing & the impressed marks are partially worn, all of which would be expected on an original pair of un-restored sticks - please see photos. Each stick is approx 10 7/8" tall (approx 27.8cm). Overall, a fine pair of large candlesticks, in great condition for their 107 years.
