This is a heavy, Art Deco Silver cigarette case, by the silversmiths A Wilcox, & fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1940.

The case is rectangular in form, with chamfered front & rear edges & is decorated with a very fine engine turned engraving.

The case is opened via a sprung push button to reveal a gilded interior, complete with it's original, elastic retaining band.

The case is fully hallmarked to the interior with the makers mark 'A.W' (A Wilcox - AN Andrews & HS Andrews), the anchor (Birmingham), the lion passant (925 Sterling), & the date letter 'Q' (1940 - 41). The makers mark, lion passant & date letter are repeated on the opposite side.

Condition is Fine with very light surface marks commensurate with it's 69 years. The interior gilding is complete & unworn, although there is the expected light surface staining.

The case measures approx 4 1/2" x 3 3/8" (approx 11.4cm x 8.5cm), & weighs a substantial 182.2g, 6.43oz, or 5.86 Troy.
