With scholarly tastes running against the bright colors and decor of cloisonne, most pieces of this period were made feminine tastes in mind, or for imperial or temple decor. this piece, with its archaistic design motif and use of color, belongs most likely to one of the latter two categories, and with the particular use of yellow and absent any major Buddhist or Taoist motifs, probably for someone associated to some degree with the court.

A green glazed pumpkin form teapot, with a dragon head as the spout, a small bird as the 'handle', and lotus petal pattern around the rim. From Vietnam, it is in good condition, with minor losses, wear to glaze, and dirt residue. A simple lid of similar color and period, but lesser quality, comes with if desired.
