A quintissential example of a form unique to Vietnam, this pot was used to carry lime for the chewing of betel nut. In fact, it still has remnants of lime within.
Dating to circa the 17th century, it is in wonderful condition. Decorated in both underglaze blue and green, with an areca vine motif at the bases of the handles. For more information on the subject, as well as a picture of a similar albeit earlier example, see "Vietnamese Ceramics: a Separate Tradition" by Stevenson and Guy, Appendix 1. Limepots, pages 391-395. Plate 426. Measurements: Approximately 23.25 cm in height, 20 cm wide. |
