| With scholarly tastes running against the bright colors and decor of cloisonne, most pieces of this period were made feminine tastes in mind, or for imperial or temple decor. this piece, with its archaistic design motif and use of color, belongs most likely to one of the latter two categories, and with the particular use of yellow and absent any major Buddhist or Taoist motifs, probably for someone associated to some degree with the court. The wire, under magnification, appears to be gilded, which would be typical for this type of piece. Approximately 11x8 cm. | ||||||||||||
