This luscious jewel is a 2.5" t. handmade vase by R. Guy Cowan, one of the earliest of his studio pottery vessels and dating to roughly 1909-1910, when he was still affiliated with East Technical High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and had not yet established his pottery, which in 1912 was established on the west side of Cleveland in the suburb of Lakewood--and called the Cleveland Pottery and Tile Company.

This Roseville Teasel 884-8” vase is a stunning dark mottled blue. There is a faint pencil notation “original” and a GK monogram (from George Krause), and the piece originated in George Krause's personal collection. He was the company's glaze chemist from about 1920 until they closed in 1954.

This 1930s Roseville Imperial II (Glazes) 478-8” vase has an outstanding crystalline glaze in shades of ivory, gold, and brown. Inside, one can see prominent fingers marks, which--like the exterior rings--make the piece look as though it were thrown by hand. In actuality, it was made with the help of a jigger.
