Charles Lakofsky Studio Art Matte Glazed Stoneware Bowl
Charles Lakofsky (1922-1993) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and trained at the Cleveland School (now Institute) of Art, after which he earned an M.A. in Ceramics at Alfred University and an M.F.A. in Ceramic Design at Ohio State University. For 35 years, he taught art at Bowling Green State University, during which time his exquisite studio pottery (often in a reddish stoneware clay) and wheel-thrown porcelains won numerous prizes, in the United States and abroad, and began finding homes in both public and private collections.

In 2007 I was honored to curate a memorial exhibiton of his work, drawn largely from the collection of his now late wife, Mrs. Charles Lakofsky, from whose estate I purchased a few examples. The examples I am selling came from his home and have not been on the market before.

You can obtain a small illustrated booklet that I wrote, to accompany this exhibition, from Lulu. Or you can easily locate many favorable reviews of the exhibition by googling the potter's name.

This piece is 2-7/8" tall x 5-5/8" and has no crazing. Made of wheel-thrown brown-colored clay, a grainy type of stoneware. Matte glazed in shades of grayish tan, light brown, medium brown, and olive green touches. Very abstract expressionist in its glaze application. Unglazed foot. There is one small spot on the lip that is not fully glazed over, as you'll see in the last photo or two (below). Please study the photos for details.

Marked with a paper return-address label, and probably marked with the CL monogram underneath that. Date unknown. No nicks, chips, hairlines, or repairs.
