Meric Art Studios 1930s Matte Green Castle Vase
This is an unusual example of Meric Art Ware (East Liverpool, Ohio), made in the early 1930s. It measures 6" x 6" and has an olive or willow green glaze that is partly glossy and partly matte, well-suited to the busy scene in relief all around, depicting a castle with its drawbridge down, a knight on horseback, mountains, and clouds.

There is crazing on this piece, but no nicks, chips, hairlines, or repairs. The glaze appears to be extremely scarce today, as in fact do examples of this little-known American art pottery. Marked with the four-digit shape number 2127 and several obscure marks.
