Roseville Pottery Bleeding Heart Pink 927-10" Ewer #1
This art deco Roseville Bleeding Heart 927-10" ewer is crisp and beautiful. It comes from the personal collection of George Krause (who was Roseville's glaze chemist from about 1919 through 1954) and bears a sticker to that effect.

It is also hand-incised with a TRIAL GLAZE notation. Because the coloring looks very close to the standard Roseville colorway, this piece could be viewed as almost a prototype. The clay is a bit whiter than usual, and the piece colder to the touch than the usual buff-colored clay pieces. So it was made with more china clay than usual--probably so that Mr. Krause could test the effects of a particular glaze more accurately.

No nicks, chips, hairlines, or repairs. There is one very small silver spot, probably from being handled while wearing jewelry and also a brown smudge on the edge of the foot. For more photos, visit
