This Roseville Blackberry 569-5” vase has a grayish white china clay body and is also hand-incised with a GK monogram and dated 1933. It was part of the personal collection of George Krause, who was the pottery's glaze chemist for most of the Frank Ferrell generation. Extremely rare and unusual item, which is illustrated in my book UNDERSTANDING ROSEVILLE POTTERY (page 144). Another example from the Krause collection was sold to a private collector during the summer of 2008. Note that the white clay shows through in spots--just as the typical Zanesville buff-colored clay sometimes shows through on a production example of Blackberry. This shape is hard to find, and the unusual coloring, signature, date, and provenance make it a conversation piece and an opportunity that will not come around again anytime soon. No nicks, chips, hairlines, or repairs. Please inquire for additional photos. |
