SOLD

This is an interesting bust that came my way just the other day. It is dated 1903. There is quite a bit inscribed on the shoulder area, some of it written in French, but I have been unable to make out most of it so I suggest you have a go at it and, if you figure it out, let me know. The dimensions are 22" across at the shoulders and a little over 15" to the top of the head. It's really quite nice...wish I knew more.

$75.00

Here we have a fabulous 19th century French copper on tin covered dish, complete with little dings and dents and a slightly tilted finial. Julia Child would have loved this, and think of the wonderful presentation next time you serve "Canetons Farcis Braises Catalane"! (For those of you who don't know me, this is a joke. My culinary skills peaked at peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, so I might put hot rolls in it.) The lovely dish measures 13" by 8.5". The dome is 10 ...click for details

Offered here is a lovely and subtle triptych composed of 3 watercolors of aquatic plants. The paintings are all on a pale gold ground and show the various systems of each plant. Calligraphy fills the upper right corner of each painting. They are framed in a single gilt wood frame with a silk mat. Each painting has a liner that matches the outer frame. $239.00

Offered here is a white metal sculpture of a dog, probably a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (a Pit Bull), cast after the original by the French sculptor, Joseph Victor Chemin (1825-1901). The dog is obviously going after a flea, and this sculpture is a wonderful study of the dogs form and musculature. It was finished in a golden bronze patina, much of which has worn off over the years, leaving a much softer, more muted color. The dog, measured on it'as base, is 8" by 4.5". It is ab ...click for details

$200.00

This is a very pretty Windsor chair in early black paint. My favorite part of the chair is the hand carved stiles on the back that are curved back so carefully but are still slightly irregular. The chair is sturdy and the legs do not wobble. Seat height is 17", back height is 33" at the center point. The legs, sides and stiles are bamboo turned, and the legs have a nice little splay to them. This is a charming country chair.
