SOLD

Offered here is a beautiful, early carved wood and gesso santo. It is finely carved which imbues the figure with great dignity and grace. Note the beautiful face and gentle gestures. The statue is missing two fingers and one hand and would have been affixed to a base. I feel fairly certain this is an 18th century piece. 12.5" high. Priced as is.

SOLD

Offered here is a pair of truly fabulous candlesticks that are likely French in origin. They probably date to the early 19th century and possibly a bit earlier. They have impressive height (nearly 21"), and the most beautiful turned column. Each one is just slightly different, but close enough to be considered a pair. They have worm holes and nicks and bumps. The base at one time was drilled for lamps, but that has since been filled, and one candlestick has been repaired in a couple of ...click for details

SOLD

Offered here is a small round box made of ivory and tortoiseshell. The top is decorated with a lavender guilloche enamel and gold medallion with a deep red stone set in the center. The inside of the box is tortoiseshell and there are thin bands of tortoiseshell around the outside of the box. I doubt that the stone is genuine but I do not know about the gold on the top. The ivory has the pretty graining you would expect and the color is nice and mellow. I would say the box would be late 19th ...click for details

SOLD

This is a very small and charming tortoiseshell box that I would date to the early 19th century. The top is tortoiseshell with metal stringing in the corners. The front and back sides of the box are a lighter color tortoiseshell, and the two end sides are a darker more mottled variety of tortoiseshell. The box is raised on little white ball feet that appear to be porcelain. There is a tiny brass knob in the front that attaches to an interior locking sort of mechanism, but I cannot imagine be ...click for details

The bases are 7" by 4.5". They are in very fine condition with only a tiny chip near the base in the back of one candlestick. The bases and the candlesticks are made for short, fat little dowels, but they are not present. They are lovely and so elegant.

SOLD

Here we have a wonderful religious artifact that dates to the 18th-19th century. They are carved of wood, were gessoed and enameled over that. Very little of that remains, more gesso than enamel, but you can see small areas of skin toned paint on the tops of both feet. They are almost life sized, well formed and well carved, and a wonderful relic. They measure approximately 8" in length.

SOLD

Offered here is a fabulous antique Mexican santo, depicting Saint Isadore. The figure has glass eyes, cast upward to heaven, caries a cross and is accompanied by a sheep. I love the way the base is shaped...it has a little extension to accommodate the sheep. It is carved wood and gesso, polychrome. The halo is made of tin. It is in superb condition. The statue measures 19" including the halo. Santo Isadore is the patron saint of farmers and the rural communities.
