This is an interesting 20th century abstract painting with hidden figures throughout the painting. At first glance it looks like a simple floral motif with splashes of vibrant color. Up closed you can see faces, bodies, even a young boy on a horse that have been inked in or on the surface, which gives the painting a slightly surreal or even dreamy quality that's quite nice. The painting is signed "Nori", was done sometime around the 70s in my opinion. The size is 22" by 29 ...click for details

This very interesting painting was painted in 1907 at the Magdelena-Vieja, about 3 miles West of Lima, Peru. It depicts on of the shrines found throughout South America known as Cruce de Mayo, so called because of the custom of changing the draperies on the arms of the cross in the first week of May. The white dot at the foot of the cross is a skull. It was apparently fairly commonplace to find skulls, and it was customary to place them at the foot of the cross. The hole at the bottom was to b ...click for details

Here we have a wonderful impressionist style seascape painted in broad strokes and bold color. It depicts a rocky shore at sunset. The color is really great. The sky is a deep coral of various shades, the sea in green and cream. It is framed in a driftwood colored frame that is worn around the edges so the natural wood shows through. It is the perfect foil for the bold colors in the painting. The painting is done in, I think, oil on some type of board almost like cardboard. There is some c ...click for details

Very interesting and dramatic depiction of, presumably, the Great Flood of biblical times. I have seen various similar scenes over the years, so I imagine this is after a more well know and earlier piece. This painting shows a mother tiger with her cub in her mouth perched on a high rock away from the swirling water below. It also shows a man and woman hoisting their children upon the rock with the tiger away from the flood waters. The painting is framed in a giltwood frame with great old pa ...click for details

Here is a fine, atmospheric painting signed by Suzanne Krieger, done in the 20th century, titled "Okefenokee". The Okefenokee swamp covers over 700 square miles of South Georgia and North Florida and is one of the nation's largest wildlife preserves. The painting is evocative of the dense vegetation and the watery habitat of the swamp. Done in modernist or abstract style, it is the confident work of a very competent artist. The size is approximately 26" by 22".

This is a lovely landscape with a mountain background and cows grazing in the foreground. It was painted in the late 19th century by the grandmother (or great grandmother) of the person from whom I bought the painting. She lived and painted in Nova Scotia. As you may know, there are no mountains in Nova Scotia, but the artist liked mountains, so she simply put them in! The painting is lovely with vibrant coloring and a skilled technique, and the frame is gorgeous. The size, as framed, is 33 ...click for details

offered here is a fine little impressionist painting of a country landscape with cottages. I don't know whether it is English or American, although certainly the landscape looks more English. Nevertheless, it is a lighthearted and well painted piece. It is signed on the front, D. Willey. It is inscribed on the back to Donna Wyllie Davis from D.E. Wyllie. Unframed, it is on a 16" by 20" Newton canvas board that looks like it would date to the 30's.
